Module aim (aims)
Introduction to chemical technology and presentation of common and modern technological processes related to the transformation of raw materials and production of different chemicals agents and substances.
Pre-requisites in terms of knowledge, skills and social competences (where relevant)
The basic knowledge of inorganic and organic chemistry as well as instrumental analysis.
Syllabus
Week 1: Principles of catalysis and overview of chemical technology Week 2: From lead chamber to contact processes – sulphuric acid production Week 3: High pressure processes - ammonia production Week 4: Fertilizers - overview and production methods Week 5: Examples of inorganic compounds production: Chlorine, Sodium Hydroxide, Soda ash Week 6: Examples of organic compounds production: Methanol synthesis and its transformation Week 7: Gas and liquid phase oxidation: olefins and aromatic compounds Week 8: Crude Oil and refinery products, Biofuels, Coal and Coal products.
