Module aim (aims)

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the issue of shrinking cities as a topical phenomenon in urban geography. In particular, the course will address the following issues:

- urban shrinkage in the past and today
- shrinking cities: a global phenomenon?
- causes and consequences of urban shrinkage
- "icons" of shrinkage
- shrinkage of old industrial cities
- regeneration strategies in shrinking cities
- industrial heritage as part of regeneration strategy in shrinking old industrial cities
- the specificity of post-socialist urban shrinkage
- shrinking cities in Poland

Pre-requisites in terms of knowledge, skills and social competences (where relevant)
