Module aim (aims)

Focus on the acquisition of basic structures and lexis for everyday French, integrated skills development (listening/speaking emphasis) to CEFR A1, and intercultural competence via study of France and comparative perspectives.

Pre-requisites in terms of knowledge, skills and social competences (where relevant)

The course is designed for beginners, students who do not know French and who are interested in discovering the French language and culture

Syllabus

• Week 1: Getting started — say who you are, introduce a friend, learn the alphabet
• Week 2: Meeting new people — ask questions and share basic info
• Week 3: Numbers and colours — do simple sums and learn lots of colours
• Week 4: What time is it? — talking about hours and minutes
• Week 5: Seasons, months and days — talking about dates and today’s date
• Week 6: Asking simple questions — who, where, how, how much, when, why
• Week 7: Your family — introduce your family members
• Week 8: Hobbies and interests — say what you like and don’t like
• Week 9: What someone looks like — describing appearance
• Week 10: What someone is like — describing personality
• Week 11: How you feel — moods and basic needs (hungry, thirsty, cold…)
• Week 12: French music — a bit of history and famous singers/musicians
• Week 13: Know how to introduce your family,
• Week 14: Recap week — review and practice
• Week 15: Test week — evaluation
