Timetable
Module aim (aims)
This module is an introductory course in Polish for Spanish-speaking students with no prior knowledge of the language. It is taught in Spanish and focuses on the development of basic communicative competence in Polish (A1 level, CEFR). Classes take place once a week and combine language instruction with an introduction to Polish communicative culture.
The module aims to:
- introduce the fundamentals of the Polish language,
- develop basic communicative skills at A1 level,
- familiarize students with Polish pronunciation and grammar,
- build essential vocabulary for everyday situations,
- introduce key aspects of Polish communicative and cultural norms.
Pre-requisites in terms of knowledge, skills and social competences (where relevant)
No prior knowledge of Polish is required.
The module is designed for Spanish-speaking students.

- The Polish alphabet and pronunciation
- Basic greetings and self-presentation
- Polish sounds and spelling rules
- Personal pronouns and basic sentence structure
- Present tense of common verbs
- Gender of nouns and singular forms
- Numbers, time, days and months
- Family, food and everyday activities
- Ordering food and shopping
- Asking for directions and simple interactions
- Formal and informal communication in Polish
- Politeness strategies and forms of address
- Basic cultural norms in everyday communication
- Listening and reading simple texts
- Writing short messages and participating in basic dialogues
Learning Outcomes: Knowledge
After completing the course, the student:
- has basic knowledge of the Polish language at A1 level,
- knows the Polish alphabet, basic pronunciation rules and spelling conventions,
- understands fundamental grammatical structures of Polish (e.g. personal pronouns, present tense, gender of nouns),
- is familiar with basic vocabulary related to everyday life and simple social interactions,
- knows key features of Polish communicative culture, including forms of politeness and address.
Skills
After completing the course, the student is able to:
- understand and use basic Polish expressions and sentences related to everyday needs,
- introduce themselves and others in Polish,
- ask and answer simple questions about personal details, time, place and daily activities,
- participate in simple dialogues in typical everyday situations (e.g. shopping, ordering food),
- understand short spoken and written texts in Polish,
- write simple sentences and short messages,
- apply basic rules of politeness in Polish communication.
Social competences
After completing the course, the student:
- shows openness towards linguistic and cultural diversity,
- demonstrates basic intercultural awareness in communication with Polish speakers,
- is prepared to function in simple everyday situations in Poland,
- understands the importance of appropriate language use in different social contexts.
