General idea of criminal law policy in Europe and its factors, with particular focus on the Council of Europe and European Union
Pre-requisites in terms of knowledge, skills and social competences (where relevant)
Level of English that enables to communicate and read legal texts.
Syllabus
Part 1: Basic concepts (weeks 1-2)
Part 2: Do the patterns for „good” criminal policy exist? (weeks 3-4)
Part 3: Council of Europe & criminal policy (weeks 5-6)
Part 4: European Union & criminal law (weeks 7-13)
4.1 The evolution of criminal policy in the European Union (weeks 7-8)
4.2 Cooperation in criminal matters in the European Union – legal basis (weeks 9-10)
4.3 EU Foreign and Security policy (week 11)
4.4 Offenders & their rights in the EU (week 12)
4.5. Victims & their rights in the EU (week 13)
