Module aim (aims)
The goal is to develop in students the knowledge and skills related to the acquisition of and creation of scientific knowledge with the help of basic concepts and mathematical tools applied in natural and technical and social sciences.
Pre-requisites in terms of knowledge, skills and social competences (where relevant)
Syllabus
1. Linear algebra: matrices and vectors and typical operations, determinants, order of matrices, applications, statistical applications of linear algebra, linear systems of equations, applications to network analysis.
2. Differential calculus: concept of function, local and global behaviour, derivative, vector function, conditional extremes, economic applications.
3. Integral calculus: fields and integral, methods of integration, applications to the calculation of averages and expected, probability distributions, survival function and applications.
4. Dynamic systems: equation of motion, discrete and continuous systems, example of socio-demographic model, concept of equilibrium, phase diagram, examples of applications from politics, military and epidemiology.
