Module aim (aims)

The aim of this course is to provide students with insights into current issues in Hungary. We will examine demographic trends, religion, the situation of minorities, government institutions, parliamentary parties - both past and present, economic development, transportation, education and tourism.

Week 1:               Basic information and geographical data about Hungary

Week 2:               Population, demographic processes

Week 3:               Religion in Hungary

Week 4:               Minorities in Hungary

Week 5:               Government institutions (Parliament, Government, Prime Minister, President)

Week 6:               Parliamentary parties after the regime change

Week 7:               Presidents and prime ministers after the regime change

Week 8:               The electoral system

Week 9:               Economic development and level of advancement

Week 10:            Employment, unemployment, social welfare

Week 11:            Transportation

Week 12:            Education system

Week 13:            The situation of Hungarians beyond the borders
