Module aim (aims)
This course is designed for non-native speakers of Thai to learn to communicate in Thai language in daily life at a beginner level. The course provides introduction to Thai sounds system, useful Thai words and sentences, basic Thai grammar, Thai conversations in various situations in everyday life, special tips for common Thai language use, and Thai culture. Learners will develop their listening and speaking skills in Thai language while reading and writing skills are not required in this course.
Pre-requisites in terms of knowledge, skills and social competences (where relevant)
Thai vocabulary and abilities in reading, writing and speaking Thai are not required before taking this course. Knowledge of English language and its grammatical structures will be useful but not vital.

Listening Comprehension Can understand basic Thai phrases and questions used in daily life (e.g., greetings, numbers, simple directions).
- 25%
Speaking Ability Can introduce themselves, ask and answer basic questions, pronounce Thai clearly enough to be understood.
- 15%
Reading Comprehension Can read and understand basic words, signs, and simple sentences written in Thai script.
- 15%
Writing Skills Can write simple sentences, personal information, and familiar expressions using basic Thai grammar and vocabulary.
- 15%
Vocabulary and Grammar Shows understanding of basic vocabulary (e.g., food, family, days) and simple grammar (e.g., particles, question words).
- 10%
Participation and Attitude Participates actively in class, makes an effort to use Thai, and shows a positive attitude toward learning.
Common Forms of Classes
seminar + graded test: A small group discussion, usually with reading or research be-forehand. Interactive, students talk, share ideas, ask questions and final test.

- Lectures on grammar rules
- Practice exercises on writing and vocabulary
- Conversation classes for speaking fluency
- Listening sessions using audio clips
- Group activities or games to build confidence
Evaluation Type
Graded Credit: includes 30% weekly test, 10% homework and 60% final test
Grade Scale
Polish grade 5: (92 and above)
Excellent – The student demonstrates outstanding understanding of the material, performs at a high level, and uses Thai confidently, accurately, and fluently.
Polish grade 4,5: (84–91)
Very Good – The student shows strong understanding with only minor errors. Communication is clear, and they actively participate in class.
Polish grade 4: (76 – 83)
Good – The student understands most of the content, with occasional mistakes. Overall communication is effective, and comprehension is solid.
Polish grade 3,5: (68 – 75)
Fairly Good – The student has basic understanding but makes noticeable grammatical or vocabulary errors. More fluency and practice are needed.
Polish grade 3: (60 – 67)
Fair – The student has limited understanding. Can express simple ideas but lacks accuracy and fluency in using the language.
Polish grade 2: (0-59)
Fail – The student is unable to demonstrate the basic level of understanding or language use required. Does not meet the minimum requirements for passing.
