Syllabus

Week 1: Introductory class. Information on credit requirements. 
Week 2: How does the voice work? Functions of intonation
Week 3: English sounds characteristics: easy onset vs. hard glottal attack, voicing.

Week 4: Linking and assimilation.

Week 5: Tonic syllable and main intonation patterns. 
Week 6: Highlighting

Week 7: The Falling Tone: Telling. 
Week 8: The Falling and Fall Rise Tone: Telling and referring. 
Week 9: Revision, question tags.

Week 10: The Rise Tone: Roles and status of speakers

Week 11: Low Key Information.

Week 12: Contrast. The Rise fall patterns

Week 13: Revision and practice.

Week 14: Pitch, intonation and voice quality in public speaking. Examples.
Week 15: Five Voices for Teachers. Course sum up and feedback.
