Module aim (aims)
The module aims to introduce students to the latest trends in contemporary design concepts at the architectural as well as urban scale. The module consists of lectures and design workshops.
Pre-requisites in terms of knowledge, skills and social competences (where relevant)
Basic knowledge of design. Ability to work in a team.
Syllabus
Lectures:
1. Introduction to modern architecture - 20th-century theories.
2. New Architecture - challenges, trends, directions.
3 Why do cities exist? Introduction to urbanism - theories of city development, structure, composition.
4. Urbanism in chaos - causes and effects.
5. New cities - new trends. A critical look.
