Module aim (aims)
- Workshop will cover basics of the web mapping, from the definition and main concepts to practical aspects and examples of real-life applications of web-based GIS services.
- Participants will learn how to build and publish a simple internet thematic map that make use of both local and remote data sources
- Participants will learn how to display both 2D and 3D spatial data with focus on human geography and spatial planning
- Course will focus on developing data visualisation skills in web environment
Pre-requisites in terms of knowledge, skills and social competences (where relevant)
Basic cartography/GIS skills
Syllabus
Week 1: Web mapping in ArcGIS Online - learning the environment
Week 2: Importing and displaying simple spatial data - thematic mapping basics
Week 3: Advanced thematic mapping
Week 4: Creating and publishing interactive map
Week 5: Importing and displaying 3D data - introduction to Virtual Reality
Week 6-7: Developing final project on selected theme.

Due to rapid advancement of technologies that are used during the course, the literature needed will be presented during the course in the form of web-accesible tutorials.
