Module aim (aims)

Interdisciplinary applications of scanning electron microscopy and electron dispersive spectrometer; preparation and characteristics of selected samples, the possibilities and limitations of using the scanning microscope and microanalysis.

Microscale observations along with semi-quantitative analysis on various examples will be the main focus of the course.

 

Pre-requisites in terms of knowledge, skills and social competences (where relevant)

The course is addressed to the students (foreign and Polish) of: geology, geography, environmental sciences and archeology.

Syllabus

SEM-EDS - possibilities and limitations.  

Examples of the application of scanning microscopy e.g. in geoscience and archaeometry; 

Exercises on selected samples; possible observations of students' own samples           

Learning how to use and present the results in scientific papers.
