Timetable
15 hours lectures; 30 hours laboratory x 2 groups = 60h
Tle lectures will start from 15th of October at 8.00 am in the room 2.61 at the Faculty of Chemistry and one lecture on 17th of October in the room 2.62
The laboratories will start from 20th of November (Thursday) -1st group at 8.00 am and from 1st of December (Monday) - 2nd group at 8.00 am. The rooms 3.143, 3.144 and 3.145 at the Faculty of Chemistry
Module aim (aims)
- Transfer of knowledge in the field of preparation, characterization and catalytic activity of heterogeneous catalysts as well as safety rules in laboratory work
- Development of ability to select catalysts to desired processes
- Development of skills to apply research methods fitted to effective operation of catalytic converters
- Prepare for proper interpretation of experimental results
- Development of writing skills in the range of reports from project laboratory work
- Skills development in literature searching
Pre-requisites in terms of knowledge, skills and social competences (where relevant)
The fundamental knowledge in physical chemistry.
Syllabus
Week 1: Lectures - Introduction to catalysis; Fundamentals of heterogeneous catalysis; Structure of catalysts
Week 2: Lectures - Catalytic materials; Mechanism of catalytic processes; Preparation of catalysts
Week 3: Lectures - Characterization of composition, phase structure and properties of catalyst particles
Week 4: Lectures - Characterization of surface properties; Catalytic activity and deactivation of catalysts; Performance of catalytic processes
Week 5: Laboratory – individual research project
Week 6: Laboratory – individual research project
Week 7: Laboratory – individual research project
Week 8: Laboratory – individual research project
Week 9: Laboratory – individual research project
Week 10: Laboratory – individual research project
