Module aim (aims)

Nowadays Ukraine unfortunately associates mostly with War. Its culture, famous people, history, artists and writers and everything what Ukrainian society and culture represents stays in the shadow of war. During this course the lecturer will present topics, covering important aspects of Ukrainian history, society and culture while understanding contemporary events requires knowledge of all these areas. The course will be also as an introduction to realize, that Ukrainian nation formed over centuries, not from 1991.

What you'll learn:

Historical range - history for over 1000 years;

The roots of the Ukrainian language and its relations with other Slavic languages;

Religion in Ukraine and influence of Byzantine tradition on it;

Origins of the conflict in Donbass;

Prisoners of Geography: Geographical Causes of War;

How the Russian war influenced the Ukrainian culture;

How Ukrainians defined the society;

Ukraine: Society, culture, politics as a brand.
