Module aim (aims)

To give an introduction to the history of religious culture of Greater Poland (in the broader contex of the history of Poland)

To provide necessary tools and information for further study

To increase ability of critical evaluation of archival sources

To appreciate focus on micro-history

To place the history of the region (Greater Poland) in the context of broader history of Poland

 

Pre-requisites in terms of knowledge, skills and social competences (where relevant)

Awareness of the specificity of historical discourse

Basic knowledge of the history of Poland and Europe

Ability to engage in analysis and synthesis of historical material

  1. Pre-Christian traditions and christianization - cathedrals and churches of Greater Poland
  2. Medieval monasticism and early ecclesiastical structures
  3. Religious intellectual culture in the Renaissance period
  4. Reformation and protestant communities in Greater Poland
  5. Post-Tridentine Catholic piety
  6. Enlightenment in Poznan and in the region
  7. Bishops of Poznan as senators of the Kingdom
  8. Flourishing Catholic culture in 19th century
  9. Leaders and role-models among the clergy and lay people in the contemporary era
  10. History in practice: mapping of Greater Poland
  11. History in practice: oldest medieval sources
  12. History in practice: daily life in an Cistercian monastery
  13. History in practice: Bohemian Brethren in Greater Poland
  14. History in practice: Jewish traditions
  15. History in practice: 19th-century noble families 
  16. History in practice: missionary outreach of the local Church in 20th century
