Module aim (aims)

1. Students will learn fundamental theories and ideological concepts concerning social role of education that will enable them to understand, analyze and formulate questions and answers to various problems of social functioning of contemporary schools.2. Students will learn to integrate theory and empirical evidence, research and school practice and – as a result – develop various sociological perspectives of studying education.3. Students will learn to use both theory and empirical research to analyze critically various ideas within the historical and contemporary discourse about the social/political role of school/education4. Students will develop skills to use analytic methods to critically analyze educational texts and educational practices.Assessment based on: - class attendance - participation in class discussions based on prior access to literature/empirical research - written assignment (final essay)
