Module aim (aims)

The course is an introduction to the field of human psychosexual development. The seminar's primary goal is to verify students' common knowledge about human psychosexual development and combine it with the present scientific findings. The course aims to provide the concept of human sexual development as a continuous process subordinated to two sources of determination: social and biological. It will widely explore the interpersonal and social aspects of human sexual behavior in different stages of life.

Pre-requisites in terms of knowledge, skills and social competences (where relevant)

Competence in discussion and work in groups.

English language comprehension sufficient to read literature on the subject in this language.

Week 1: Introduction to human sexuality: what is human sexuality

Week 2: The concept of development and models of psychosexual development

Week 3: Main biological determinants of psychosexual development

Week 4: Main social determinants of psychosexual development

Week 5: Development of sex and gender

Week 6: Psychosexual development in early childhood: main changes and typical behavior

Week 7: Psychosexual development in adolescence: main changes and typical behavior

Week 8: Sexual norm for children and adolescents, atypical sexual behavior

Week 9: High-risk sexual behavior of young people

Week 10: Media, family, education, and young people's sexuality

Week 11: The problem of child sexual abuse and its impact on psychosexual development

Week 12: Adult sexuality and relationships: phases and models

Week 13: Adult sexuality and relationships: pregnancy and parenthood

Week 14: Sexuality in the late adulthood

Week 15: Human psychosexual development - future directions
