Module aim (aims)
- To give an overview of basic facts concerning Church history in late modern and contemporary era
- To analyze motivations and inspirations of people who had most impact on historical events
- To investigate broader social context of major turning points in the life of the Church
- To increase ability of critical evaluation of archival sources
- To understand continuity and change in the life and institutions of the Church
Pre-requisites in terms of knowledge, skills and social competences (where relevant)
- Awareness of the specificity of historical discourse
- Basic knowledge of history of the ate modern and contemporary era (dates, names, places)
- Ability to engage in analysis and synthesis of historical material
- Respect for different points of view in the evaluation of historical facts

- Catholic renewal in Europe and North America in the 1st half of the 19th Century
- Catholic Church in the partitioned Poland, 1800-1918
- New ideologies and the development of Catholic social teaching
- Missionary expansion in the 19th Century
- Beginning of the ecumenical movement. Christian-Jewish relations before the 1st world war
- Church, theology and Christian culture between First Vatican Council and 1950s
- Challenge of fascist and communist totalitarianism
- Second Vatican Council and changes in global Christianity
- Catholic Church in Poland in 20th century
- History in practice: restauration in Europe after 1815
- History in practice: missionary periodicals and propagation of faith
