Module aim (aims)
- developing the four basic language skills - speaking, reading, writing and listening,
- mastering a range of vocabulary, phrases and structures of Italian at beginner level,
- acquiring the ability to understand simple written and listened texts on general topics,
- acquiring the intercultural knowledge necessary to establish and maintain communication with users of the target language, appropriate to their level of proficiency,
- familiarisation with the fundamental values of the culture of Italy,
- developing an awareness of continuous improvement of language skills,
- acquiring the ability to use teaching aids and information technology proficiently to develop language skills
Pre-requisites in terms of knowledge, skills and social competences (where relevant)
The course is for students who have no prior knowledge of Italian (true beginners), who are interested in discovering Italian language and culture and who want to communicate without problems in the most basic situations of everyday life.
Syllabus
Week 1: Ways of communicating. Simple and compound prepositions – rules I
Week 2: Ways of communicating. Simple and compound prepositions – rules II
Week 3: At what time? Conversations at what time you do something.
Week 4: My apartment, furnishings, determining where what stands. Possessive pronouns
Week 5: The city. Prepositional phrases related to getting around the city.
Week 6: Getting around the city - urban transportation.
Week 7: Routine of the day. Reflexive verbs in the present tense.
Week 8: When? Temporal terms of the past.
Week 9: Past perfect, regular and irregular participles, auxiliary verbs-rules I.
Week 10: Past perfect, regular and irregular participles, auxiliary verbs-rules II.
Week 11: Routine of the day in the past tense.
Week 12: Italian bar traditions, ways to order, types of coffee.
Week 13: Modal verbs in the past tense.
Week 14: Revision.
Week 15: Evaluation Test.
