Timetable
15 conversatory classes (each lasts 2 hours). The items from syllabus can be taught during one or more classes. It is impossible to create very deatailed timetable.
Module aim (aims)
Presentation of main phenomena of European Culture (synchronically and diachronically)
Presentation of main trends in contemporary European Culture
Presentation of solid paradigms and phenomena coming from older epochs, especially from Antiquity
Acquisition of instruments for analysis of cultural phenomena
Pre-requisites in terms of knowledge, skills and social competences (where relevant)
General knowledge of European history.
Syllabus
1. Various definition of Culture. Culture vs. Civilization. Scientific approach to Culture.
2. Fundaments of European Culture. The significance of Antiquity and earlier epochs for forming of
contemporary culture.
3. Continuity and changes in European Culture.
4. Nation and nationalism.
5. Christianity in 20th and 21st century.
6.Totalitarianisms and their influence on society and culture.
7. Changes in culture in 60ties in 20th century. Negation of traditional cultural paradigm.
8. Conditions for cultural activity.
