Module aim (aims)

The main goal of the module is to present principles of nuclear physics, the basic properties and behaviour of atomic nuclei, radioactivity  and applications (nuclear reactors, medical treatment).

Pre-requisites in terms of knowledge, skills and social competences (where relevant)

The knowledge of physic at least at the level college physics

Syllabus

Learning content:

Basic nuclear properties (masses, charges, magnetic dipole moments, sizes, densities)

The liquid drop model

The Fermi and shell models

Nuclear forces

Nuclear decays (alpha, beta, gamma) and radioactivity

Nuclear reactions

Fission, fusion and reactors

Applications (nuclear power, medicine, archaeology, etc.)

 

The exam - in a written form, one possibility to re-take the exam.
