Module aim (aims)

Microscale observations along with polarizing light microscope and semi-quantitative analysis on various examples will be the main focus of the course.

The course is addressed to the students (foreign and Polish) of: geology, geography, environmental sciences, biology and archeology.

Possible observations of students' own samples .

Pre-requisites in terms of knowledge, skills and social competences (where relevant)

Basic knowledge in Earth sciences (at the secondary school level).

Syllabus

Week 1-3: Macro and microscopic observation of selected group of samples-polarizing light microscopy

Week 4: Basics of Examples of the application of scanning microscopy in geoscience     

Week 5-7: Exercises on selected group of samples      

Week 8: Learning how to present the results.

Week 9: Summary of obtained results, interpretation and presentation
