The course takes place on Tuesdays between 15.00 and 16.30 starting from 23rd April

Module aim (aims)

The aim of the course is to help students gain practical competencies to use geographic information systems (GIS) in planning contexts. Students will learn how to take advantage of existing geographical data sources in solving problems they may encounter when working within local communities.

Pre-requisites in terms of knowledge, skills and social competences (where relevant)

Basic understanding of geographic information systems is useful, but a short introduction will be provided for students with no prior GIS experience.

Week 2. Working with data layers

Week 3. Accessing OpenStreetMap data

Week 4. Simple accessibility analysis

Week 5. Adding demographic information

Week 6. Calculating statistics
