Module aim (aims)
As ecotourism has gained a significant position in the tourism industry and, thus, is attracting more and more attention, the aim of the lecture is to familiarize students with contemporary tendencies in this field. The course will present the principles of ecotourism i.e. ecological principles; human attitude and behaviour; the impact of ecotourism on natural resources, cultural resources and local communities; management and income distribution. Special attention will be paid to rural areas, mountains, forests wildlife sanctuaries.
Pre-requisites in terms of knowledge, skills and social competences (where relevant)
Basic knowledge in tourism.

Week 1: Why ecotourism? Concept of ecotourism. Definitions & principles of ecotourism.
Week 2: Elements of ecotourism, ecotoursists, ecolodges.
Week 3: Ecotourism certificates. Ecolabelling and greenwashing.
Week 4: Eco-agro tourism.
Week 5: Ecotourism Practices. Examples, inspirations & case studies.
Week 6: Ecotourism Practices. Examples, inspirations & case studies.
Week 7: Ecotourism Practices. Best practice guidance.
Week 8: Developing an ecotourism product.
Week 9: Developing an ecotourism product.
Week 10: Students’ presentations.
