Timetable
Lectures will take place on Fridays from 11.30 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. in 4.1 auditorium in Collegium Iuridicium Novum Building (Al. Niepodleglosci 53, 4th floor), beginning on October 6th, 2023.
Module aim (aims)
The main aim of the course is to provide students with the basic knowledge of European Union social security law and its social policies, as well as some practical skills. Students completing the course will be able to understand the main principles of European Union social policy and social security law as well as to solve cases related to subject matter of the latter.
Pre-requisites in terms of knowledge, skills and social competences (where relevant)
Basic knowledge of the functioning of the European Union.
Syllabus
The course will cover the following issues: Week 1. Introduction to the concept of EU social security law. The concept of coordination of social security schemes and its institutional context. EU and non-EU coordination instruments. Week 2. Personal and material scope of the regulation no 883/2004. Non-discriminatory provisions both in EU Treaties and coordination regulations.Week 3. Principles of EU social security coordination.Week 4. Rules for determining the legislation applicable. Posting workers and self-employed persons, Week 4. Coordination of invalidity, survivor’s and old-age pensions. Safeguarding supplementary pensions rightsWeek 5. Coordination of family benefits and family allowances. Coordination of sickness and maternity benefits.Week 6. Recent developments in the European coordination of social security law. Week 7. Social policy initiatives of the European Union.Week 8. Equal pay for women and men in the European Union.Week 9. Equal treatment of men and women in statutory social schemes.Week 10. Tendencies in EU social policy.
